Using Netbooks at School

  1. Turn on the netbook and wait for the Novell Client login screen
  2. Make sure that the Workstation Only checkbox is NOT checked
  3. Select the proper Location for the user; Student, Faculty, or Administration
  4. Enter the Username and Password and then press OK to log in. NOTE: This process may take a few minutes the first time the user logs in to the netbook.
  5. Start the Application Window icon on the desktop to get access to the applications.

Using Netbooks at Home

  1. Before the user can log in to the netbook at home, they need to first follow the steps in the section Using Netbooks at School above.
  2. Turn on the netbook at wait for the Novell Client login screen
  3. Check the Workstation Only checkbox
  4. Enter the Username and Password and then press ok to log in.
  5. Open the Application Window icon on the desktop to access the applications

Connecting to a Wireless Network

If the network connection is not wireless, simply plug an Ethernet cable in to the Ethernet port on the device.  The device will auto-detect the connection and go online after a few seconds.

For a wireless connection, follow these steps:
  1. Click on the wireless icon in the system tray (small icons in the lower right corner next to the time)
  2. Choose your wireless network from the list that appears
  3. If applicable, enter your network security key (twice)
  4. Click Connect

Accessing files from external networks

If all of the previous steps have been completed successfully, you can access the files on our server by clicking the Winfield Files icon on the desktop.  Finally, click on the Home@D34 folder to access your home folder.  Please ignore any certificate errors and proceed.  You may be prompted for a username and password when editing a file.  Use your regular username and password to access the file.
